Hello 2017, I am SO glad to meet you! I see us becoming very good friends over the next year!
This is my first year coming up with a "Word of the Year" and I knew right away what my word would be: "DIRECTION". I am still trying to uncover exactly WHY this word and what significance it has for me, but it just feels right, ya know?
Retrospectively, I think 2016's words were "Discovery" and "Growth". They fit so well on both the personal level and the professional level. In 2016, I grew as a wife and a mother and began to discover what that means for me. Being a parent truly forces you to grow in so many ways- to give up all the things you want (sleeping in, spending hours in your pajamas scrolling through Pinterest, being out of the house past 8pm, leisurely strolls alone through Target) and sometimes things you need (sleep, showers, sleep) to put another little humans needs first. 2016 was my 2nd full year as a mommy, and by the end of it I am finally starting to feel like I'm not just in "survival mode" (at least not all the time...) As a photographer, 2016 was a year for major growth and discovery as well. At the beginning of the year, I made some major changes to my structure and started to narrow my focus to maternity, birth, and newborns. I spent a lot of time learning through online courses, books, videos, and practice. And I LOVED every minute of it! It's amazing to me how much fun studying and learning can be when you are in love with the subject!
So now that I feel like I have begun to grow and discover my voice, it makes sense that 2017 is the year for DIRECTION- setting a course and traveling on it. I'm setting goals for the year ahead, personally and professionally, and getting more organized about writing them down and tracking my progress. This is pretty exciting for me, and not only because I get to use fun color-coded pens (these are EVERYTHING!!) and a pretty photographer's planner (but lets be real, that's a big part of the reason!). One of my BIG goals for 2017 is to write a weekly blog post (check out some old ones here )- so stay tuned for those! - and more frequent posts to Facebook (find me here!) and Instagram (scroll through my feed here!), and to continue updating my website (check it out here!). I really want to be creating content that my clients will enjoy and find useful, so I'd love feedback on what you enjoyed reading, what questions you have, or what topics you would like to see in a future blog post!
Ok enough about me. Do you have a 2017 Word of the Year? I'd love to hear what it is and why it's significant to you!
